Professor Dawn Bennett – PhD (Dist), MA(Mus), GradDipEd


Dawn Bennett is a John Curtin Distinguished Professor whose passion for learning and teaching has resulted in numerous successful projects that engage faculty and students in innovative, effective and sustainable teaching approaches. Particularly relevant to ACE is her Co-CI role on three-year OLT Innovation project that saw over 200 students nationally engage with Aboriginal communities. This project brought together expertise at Curtin to form the Aboriginal Community Engagement unit.

Michelle

Dr Michelle JohnstonBA ENGLISH (WAIT); BA Honours Media Studies (Murdoch University); PhD (Murdoch University)


Dr Michelle Johnston is a Screen Arts Lecturer with extensive experience in Aboriginal community engagement and producer of the national television program ‘Noongar Dandjoo’. Her role includes Aboriginal Community Engagement unit coordinator and lecturer, liaison and relationship building with the Curtin Centre for Aboriginal Studies and the Noongar community; facilitating screen studies students’ partnerships with local Aboriginal organisations and supervising and assessing their production and other assignments; and research and project results dissemination.

Dr Bonita Mason: Journalism Lecturer and Walkley Award winning Indigenous affairs journalist with decades of experience in Indigenous reporting, policy development and community engagement. Her role includes Aboriginal Community Engagement unit presenter and tutor, liaison and relationship building with partner Aboriginal community organisations; facilitating journalism students’ partnerships with local Aboriginal organisations, and supervising and assessing their journalism (especially feature) assignments; and research and project results dissemination.

Mr Chris ThomsonB.A (Qld), Master Urban & Regional Planning (Qld), Grad Dip Professional Writing (Canberra), Grad Dip Journalism (Murdoch)


Mr Chris Thomson is a Journalism lecturer with broad experience in national policy and program development and online news publishing. In recent years, Chris’s online journalism and photo journalism students have won several national student journalism awards. His role includes Aboriginal Community Engagement unit presenter and tutor, liaison and relationship building with partner Aboriginal community organisations; facilitating online journalism and photo journalism students’ partnerships with local Aboriginal organisations, and supervising and assessing their journalism assignments; and research and project results dissemination.
